The American Theatre Wing’s Tony Awards: 2013 Winners!

“Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike” and “Kinky Boots” went home with the top prizes at this year’s Tony Awards held live on Sunday, June 9th.

The annual awards, which recognize the best on Broadway, handed out their Best Play Award to the Christopher Durang’s play “Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike.” Meanwhile “Kinky Boots” went home with the Best Musical award. “Boots” also took home Best Actor in a Musical for Billy Porter, Best Choreography, Best Orchestrations, Best Original Score and Best Sound Design.

“Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?” also went home with a number of awards including Best Revival Play, Best Direction of a Play for Pam MacKinnon and Best Actor in a Play for Tracy Letts.
Other actors to score accolades included Cicely Tyson for “The Trip to Bountiful,” Patina Miller for “Pippin,” Courtney B.Vane in “Lucky Guy,” and Judith Light for “The Assembled Parties.”

Neil Patrick Harris returned as the show’s host and once again he did not disappoint. His cracking jokes and catchy musical numbers throughout the ceremony had everyone laughing and engaged.

A number of honorary awards were handed out to Bernard Gerstein, Paul Libin and Min Cho Lee. Larry Kramer was given the Isabelle Stevenson Award while the Huntington Theatre Company was recognized with the Regional Theatre Award.
