“Smash” Cancelled After Season 2

The Broadway-focused drama, Smash, is among the series that won’t be returning at NBC next season.

Originally a bright spot on NBC’s scheduled during its first season, “Smash” started Season 2 off on a bad foot. After being off the air for about nine months, the new season debuted to disastrous ratings — 4.5 million viewers and a 1.1 rating in the coveted 18-49 demographic — and it only went down from there. Because of the ratings, it wasn’t surprising that the network decided to cancel “Smash.”

“Smash” is hardly the only show the network canceled: “1600 Penn,” “Animal Practice,” “Deception,” “Do No Harm,” “Go On,” “Guys With Kids,” “Up All Night,” “Whitney” and “The New Normal” also got the axe. Plus, “30 Rock” signed off for good.

TVLine confirmed the cancellation, adding that the series will wrap up with a two-hour finale on Sunday, May 26.
