Davy Jones, 1945-2012

The Monkees front man, Davy Jones, died today from a heart attack in Indiantown, Florida, where he lived.

Jones was born December 30, 1945 in Manchester, England. His long hair and British accent helped him achieve heartthrob status in the United States.

Jones rose to fame in the mid-1960s when he joined the pop group The Monkees, which was formed for a TV show with the same name. With such hits as “Last Train to Clarksville,” “I’m a Believer,” and “A Little Bit Me, A Little Bit You,” the group sold more than 50 million records.

Jones is survived by his wife and four daughters.
